Ashtree House Hotel, Bar and Restaurant

After several months hard work last year we successfully gained the necessary permissions to redevelop the hotel to include several new facilities for the benefit of our guests. These will include a fine dining restaurant, an upmarket bar and a function room/ art gallery space. The works have commenced and will be completed towards the end of this year or early 2010. The restaurant is to be managed by the hotel to provide a distinctly scottish and simple good fresh food menu. To compliment this, the bar/gallery space is to have a traditional interior featuring fine joinery and stonework and will have abundant natural light with direct access to the gardens. The main theme will be 400 different individual single malt whiskies.

Classic Car Tour

On the first day of their 10 day driving tour of the highlands and the west coast of Scotland, members of the OBTC Classic Car Group from Holland took over Ashtree House for the night recently and impressed us with their collection of cars dating from 1958 on. A lot of traditional open topped british sports cars in immalculate condition graced our courtyard car park and enjoyed our impressive summer weather thus far! My favourites were the light blue MGA and the Healey. After a dinner in our drawing room they walked off some calories round the abbey and local pubs before heading off the next morning towards Oban.

The Open Golf Championship

The Open Golf has returned to the West of Scotland once more. We have visitors from as far afield as Australia, USA, Canada, Germany and England all visiting Turnberry by train from here. The Toro Company have taken most rooms and we have been educated on matters such as grass cutting, professional golfers, golf course design and lots more. We hope the weather will stay dry for them all! Our partner restaurant Raeburns will be busy again tonight with all nationalities and discussions on the possible winner. Looks like it will not be a Scot !
